Dengue: 2 dead, 392 hospitalised in 24hrs

Bangladesh recorded two more dengue-related deaths in the 24 hours until Monday morning, bringing the country’s total fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 34 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 392 new patients were hospitalised with dengue, pushing this year’s total infections to 2,411, shows the DGHS data.

According to the health directorate’s daily briefing, new cases were reported as 126 in Barishal division, 80 in Chattogram division, 25 in Khulna division, one each in Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions, 41 in Rajshahi division, 31 Dhaka division, 22 in Dhaka North and 64 in Dhaka South city corporations, respectively.

Last year, dengue claimed a total of 575 lives. In 2023, some 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.

The DGHS recorded 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in the same year.
