The outbreak of dengue fever continues unabated across Bangladesh. In the past 24 hours, one person has died and 420 others have been hospitalised due to the illness.
According to the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of dengue-related deaths this year has reached 56, with 14,880 reported infections so far.
Breakdown of new cases shows that Barishal Division (outside the city corporation areas) recorded the highest number of infections with 116 patients. This was followed by 79 in Chattogram Division (excluding city areas), 60 in Dhaka Division (excluding the city corporations), 57 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 25 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 45 in Rajshahi Division, 26 in Khulna Division, 9 in Mymensingh Division, and 3 in Rangpur Division.
During the same period, 481 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 13,584.
For comparison, in 2023, Bangladesh witnessed its deadliest year for dengue, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalisations. In 2024, a total of 575 dengue-related deaths and 101,214 hospital admissions were recorded.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to take preventive measures, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season, which significantly increases the risk of mosquito breeding.
