Acclaimed Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has joined the internationally recognised Bangladeshi feature Delupi as its international presenter. The film will now travel overseas under the banner, Anurag Kashyap Presents Delupi.
The collaboration marks a major milestone for director Mohammad Touqir Islam and his debut feature following its successful release in Bangladesh and growing recognition at international film festivals.
After directing the OTT titles Shaaticup and Sinpaat, Touqir made his feature film debut with Delupi, which opened in Bangladeshi cinemas on 7 November 2025. The film earned critical acclaim at home and abroad before screening at several international film festivals.
Touqir said Kashyap decided to support the project after praising its storytelling, cinematic language and visual style. Kashyap had earlier shared his appreciation for the film on the social film platform Letterboxd. Touqir confirmed the collaboration on Sunday through a Facebook post that featured a screenshot of Kashyap’s review.
In his review, Kashyap described Delupi as a deeply human story that shows how power politics affects even the smallest communities. He said the film’s emotional depth made it feel like the story of any nearby village and added that he “absolutely loved it”.
Set in the southern Khulna region, Delupi explores river erosion, climate change, the impact of national politics on local communities and the daily struggles of people living on the margins.
Touqir welcomed Kashyap’s involvement, calling it a proud moment for the film’s team and an important achievement for Bangladeshi cinema. He said the support of a filmmaker of Kashyap’s stature would encourage the country’s film industry and expressed gratitude for his backing.
Produced by Footprint Productions, Delupi has already screened at several international festivals, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The filmmakers believe Kashyap’s association will strengthen the film’s international profile and help it reach wider global audiences.
