Gen-Z terminology may sound quirky, however, one cannot help but be fascinated by their vast range of unusual vocabulary. Terms such as “Rizz”, “No cap” and “Bet” may make other generations go “What’re they talking about?” However, to Gen-Z, this is like an everyday ritual. Believe it or not, this is their reality!

The Gen-Z dictionary has become far more intriguing with time. Back in 2015, terms such as “Fam”, “Savage” and “Lit” were frequently used. Fam is used to refer to close friends or the people you trust. It is basically short for family. An example is “Sup fam, what’s the plan for tonight?” Savage refers to being unapologetically confident or brutally honest. This was also the time when many acronyms that are widely used today started circulating over social media. Examples include “LOL” and “ROFL” which stand for “laughing out loud” and “rolling on the floor laughing.”

Currently, Gen-Z is accustomed to words like “Delulu”, “Mid” and “Ratio’d”. Delulu is short for delusional and is usually said to people who are hopeful on an excessive or unrealistic level. Mid is used to imply that something is average or overrated. Terms such as “Situationship” are also prevalent in this generation and it means to have an undefined romantic relationship with zero commitment. Another interesting term is “Rizz”, which implies that you are good at flirting. According to Gen-Z, if you are a smooth talker, you got high rizz.

Gen-Z’s way of communicating may be seen as unconventional by some. But if you spend some time to understand their vocabulary, you will realise it is actually the easiest way to get your thoughts across to people without having to make everything super lengthy. For instance, instead of saying “Don’t ruin the vibe with your negative statements”, you can simply say “Please, no bad buzz”.

Decoding Gen-Z terminology might not be simple, but remember: every “delulu” has a “solulu”!
