Manchester United’s top brass are focusing on rebuilding the squad to suit Ruben Amorim’s tactical vision, according to respected journalist David Ornstein. Despite a turbulent domestic season, which currently sees United languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, the club has no immediate plans to part ways with the Portuguese coach.

Amorim, appointed in November to replace Erik ten Hag, has struggled to reverse the club’s fortunes, with the team’s league form continuing to deteriorate. However, a spirited Europa League run—now culminating in a final—has offered a glimmer of hope. Victory would not only deliver silverware but also secure a return to Champions League football next season.

While recent reports have suggested that INEOS, who have assumed sporting control at Old Trafford, were already considering a managerial change, Ornstein has firmly dismissed such claims. Instead, he reveals that the club’s hierarchy is committed to giving Amorim time and, more crucially, the tools to succeed.

The 40-year-old has had to work with a squad tailored to Ten Hag’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. His tactical shift to a 3-4-2-1 system has not come easily, with several players—including young stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho—struggling to adapt to new roles.

Recognising the mismatch, INEOS now view equipping Amorim with a team capable of executing his philosophy as the priority ahead of the summer window. A full-scale rebuild is expected, focusing on players who fit the physical, technical, and tactical demands of his system.

With the club at a crossroads, the coming months will be critical. A successful transfer window could finally allow Amorim to instil his identity and guide United out of one of the most underwhelming seasons in their modern history. For now, stability and strategic planning take precedence over more upheaval in the dugout.
