Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, special assistant to the Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, has said the Cyber Security Act is now highly active across the country, ensuring protection against internet misuse, data theft, and system damage.
Speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting on newly enacted laws, policies, and reforms with ICT officials, organised by the Sylhet district administration on Saturday, Taiyeb urged all stakeholders to work together for the expansion of information technology in Sylhet.
He said internet facilities have already been introduced in various institutions and educational campuses. “Students must be made aware of the positive uses of the internet, and its benefits should be disseminated widely among the general public,” he noted.
The meeting, chaired by Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam, was attended by Abdun Naser Khan, secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, as special guest, along with government officials, political representatives, and members of the print and electronic media.
Highlighting the role of the Cyber Security Act, Taiyeb said the law is now playing an active role in curbing online crimes, preventing misuse of technology, and safeguarding digital systems.
He also announced the launch of a citizen service centre where people will be able to access a wide range of government services, from national ID applications to utility-related services, without harassment. To ensure citizens can enjoy the benefits of ICT, he instructed ICT officials to arrange training programmes to raise awareness among the public.
Taiyeb further reviewed challenges faced by government institutions in Sylhet and assured that any operational problems should be reported to the local administration for prompt action.
