‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ continues to make waves following its May 1 release, with strong early box office performance and positive reviews. Yet behind the glamour, cast members have revealed a series of behind-the-scenes details, from cut fashion moments to playful reflections on character style.
Anne Hathaway, who returns as Andy Sachs, has spoken about one of her favourite looks from the film that ultimately did not make the final cut.
Speaking at the European premiere in an interview with People, she said director David Frankel informed her that a scene featuring the outfit had been removed before she had even seen the finished film.
The look in question was described by Hathaway as “a Phoebe Philo T-shirt, train thing”, which she said she “loved so much”. Although it did not appear in the final edit, the outfit had already been seen by fans when she was photographed filming in New York in July 2025.
The ensemble featured an oversized white T-shirt with an extended train, paired with white trousers, Prada kitten heels, sunglasses, and a structured Coach bag.
Set two decades after the original film, the sequel follows Andy Sachs as an award-winning investigative journalist in New York. After her newsroom is suddenly shut down, she is drawn back into the orbit of Miranda Priestly, played once again by Meryl Streep, reigniting a complex professional relationship years after their original collaboration.
Hathaway also reflected on how her character has evolved since the 2006 original. She said Andy is now more self-assured, adding that while she once focused on getting everything right and pleasing authority figures, she is now more focused on authenticity and independence.
Fashion remains central to the sequel’s narrative, with Miranda Priestly continuing to command attention in the industry while navigating the shifting landscape of traditional print media.
The story also revisits her dynamic with former assistant Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, as old professional rivalries resurface in a changed media world.
Costume design has become one of the most discussed aspects of the film, with several standout looks already circulating online. Hathaway recently also revived one of Andy Sachs’ most recognisable outfits from the original film, appearing in the iconic green coat during a television appearance.
Alongside Hathaway’s comments, actor BJ Novak has also drawn attention for his role in the sequel. He plays Jay Ravitz, the son of a media tycoon described as having a finance-driven, fashion-indifferent persona who ultimately challenges Miranda Priestly’s authority.
Novak embraced the role with humour, describing his character on social media as “the worst dressed character in the history of The Devil Wears Prada universe”.
He shared behind-the-scenes images and reflected on working alongside Meryl Streep, director David Frankel and the wider cast, calling the experience a career highlight.
