A total of 1,162 nomination papers were distributed for the long-awaited Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) and hall union elections. However, 232 aspirants failed to submit their nomination papers within the deadline, according to the Election Commission.

Of the 1,162 forms distributed, 528 were for CUCSU and 634 for hall unions. The submission window was open from Sunday to 3:30 pm on Wednesday. However, the Election Commission extended the deadline by one day, with the new cutoff set at 5:00 pm Thursday.

By the end of the deadline, 930 nominations had been submitted—429 for CUCSU and 501 for hall unions—leaving 232 forms unsubmitted.

The CUCSU election, which has been eagerly anticipated, is scheduled for 12 October, marking the first election in 35 years. The last CUCSU election was held on 8 February 1990, with subsequent elections hindered by political unrest. This election will be held under the interim non-political government following recent political changes.

The Election Commission has published the final voter list, which includes 27,634 eligible voters. Chittagong University has 14 residential halls and one hostel, with five designated for female students and 10 for male students.

As per the election schedule, the preliminary list of candidates will be announced on 21 September, following the close of nominations on 18 September. Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations by 23 September, and any objections will be resolved by 24 September. The final list of candidates will be published on 25 September.

Campaigning will commence following the final announcement, with candidates permitted to campaign daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm until the day before the election.
