Over four months after the conclusion of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), several players from Brothers Union are still awaiting full payment from the club, prompting them to appeal to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and consider going public with their grievances.
Seven players who represented the club during the 2023–24 DPL season arrived at Mirpur Stadium on Wednesday morning for a scheduled press conference to highlight the issue. However, the press event was called off following a phone call from Brothers Union management.
“We came here with the intention of holding a press conference,” said one player, speaking on condition of anonymity. “But once we arrived, we received a call from the club informing us that they need another week to settle the outstanding payments. We have agreed to give them that time.”
Another player explained that they were prepared to speak publicly about the club’s irregularities and delayed payments but chose to wait after the club promised action within a week. The group submitted a formal letter to the BCB earlier in their efforts to recover the unpaid wages.
Brothers Union endured a difficult campaign in the DPL, finishing 11th in the standings with only two wins from 11 matches. They were forced into the relegation playoffs but managed to retain their position in the league by winning both matches.
