The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) on Tuesday held a meeting with the National Consensus Commission to discuss key state reform proposals.

The discussion took place at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Complex, directed by the Commission’s Vice Chairman Professor Ali Riaz.

He said the talks are part of a broader effort to restructure the state, driven by public demand after the July mass uprising, and that the goal is to build a democratic and accountable state that ensures equal rights and protection for all. The Commission is working to draft a national charter for the country’s future.

An 11-member CPB delegation, led by President Mohammad Shah Alam and General Secretary Rubin Hossain Prince also joined the National Consensus Commission on Tuesday to discuss state reform proposals.

Commission members Badiul Alam Majumdar, Justice Emdadul Haque, Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, and Md Aiyub Miah attended the discussion, moderated by Monir Haider.

CPB had earlier submitted its reform proposals on March 23. Since March 20, the Commission, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, has held talks with 32 parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP). The first phase will end by May 15 and the second phase focused on drafting the charter beginning in July.
