Bangladesh has reported two new deaths and 15 fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday afternoon.
The deceased are two women—one aged between 21 and 30, and the other between 71 and 80. One was from Dhaka Division and the other from Chattogram Division. One died in a government hospital, while the other passed away in a private facility.
With these, the total number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the country has risen to 2,051,800. Three patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,019,401.
During the same period, 174 samples were tested, yielding a daily positivity rate of 8.62%. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Bangladesh has conducted 15,726,794 COVID-19 tests.
The overall infection rate in the country stands at 13.05%, with a recovery rate of 98.42% and a fatality rate of 1.44%.
Notably, the country had reported its first COVID-related death in over a year on June 5, signaling a possible re-emergence of the virus after a prolonged period of low infection and death rates.
