A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the seizure of a flat registered under the name of Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The court order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain. Alongside the seizure, the court also approved the appointment of a receiver to oversee the property in Gulshan, Dhaka.

This development comes just days after the same court on April 27 instructed authorities to initiate steps for issuing an arrest warrant through Interpol against Saima Wazed in connection with irregularities in the allocation of government plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.

Saima Wazed Putul is among 18 individuals accused in a set of corruption cases filed by the anti-graft watchdog on January 12.

According to the commission, six plots were allegedly allocated in violation of rules with the help of senior Rajuk officials.

The beneficiaries named in the cases include Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana and Rehana’s children Radwan Mujib Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq.

The court accepted the charges against all 18 accused on April 10 and issued arrest warrants.

On Tuesday, ACC Deputy Director Md Monirul Islam, the investigation officer in the case, submitted a petition seeking the seizure of the Gulshan property. The application was presented in court by public prosecutor Md Rezaul Islam.
