A Gopalganj court has ordered the exhumation of the bodies of three men who were killed during a violent clash tied to a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally on July 16.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Romana Rosy issued the order at 10am on Monday, after investigating officers submitted a petition requesting autopsies for the victims, who were buried without post-mortem examinations.
The deceased have been identified as Ramzan Kazi, Emon Talukder, and Sohel Rana Molla.
Police sources confirmed that the bodies of Ramzan Kazi and Emon Talukder will be exhumed from the Gatepara Municipal Cemetery, while Sohel Rana Molla’s body will be exhumed from his family graveyard in Tungipara village, Tungipara upazila. All three bodies will be sent to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital for autopsies.
Despite the court’s order, the designated magistrate had not arrived at the Gatepara cemetery by noon, although police officers were present at the site.
The clash on July 16, which led to the deaths of the three men, prompted a murder case to be filed on July 19. Authorities initially buried the victims without conducting post-mortem examinations, triggering demands for a judicial inquiry.
Section 144 restrictions and the curfew that were previously imposed in the area have since been lifted.
