A court in Dhaka has ordered to attach plots and a building, worth around Tk 15 crore, of Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, defence adviser to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and his brother Shafique Ahmed Siddique.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Wednesday, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to ACC, the duo is under investigation for allegedly amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
The seized properties, include 17 decimals of land of Shafique Ahmed Siddique in Gazipur, 67 decimals of land of Tarique Ahmed Siddique and a 10-storiey building raised on 19.50 decimals of land on that plot.
The ACC is investigating the allegations of amassing illegal wealth against Tarique and his brother. In its plea, the anti-graft body mentioned that it has been learned that the duo is trying to hand over, sell or transfer the properties to evade justice.
Therefore, for the sake of justice, these properties should be attached and a receiver should be appointed in this connection, the plea stated.
