Dhaka-bound Mohanagar Express train’s two coaches’ coupling hooks broke while the train was in motion causing six coaches to detach near Ashuganj railway station around 5:45pm on Monday.
As a result, rail connections between Dhaka and Chattogram as well as Sylhet on a single line were halted.
After the incident, the train departed Ashuganj Railway Station with 10 coaches, but the engine malfunctioned while ascending the Bhairab Railway Bridge, leaving the train stranded on the bridge.
Due to this, the Joyantika Express train coming from Sylhet to Dhaka was stuck at Brahmanbaria Railway Station.
Assistant Station Master Md Sakir Zahan of Brahmanbaria Railway Station said before entering Ashuganj Railway Station, the coupling hooks between coaches Ta and Tha of the Mohanagar Express train broke, causing six coaches to separate.
The train then proceeded with the remaining 10 coaches after a scheduled stop at Ashuganj before heading towards Dhaka before the engine failed while climbing the Bhairab Railway Bridge, disrupting rail communications between Dhaka and Chattogram as well as Sylhet on the up line.
