Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday said corruption is the country’s most pressing problem, warning that individuals involved in ‘case trading and graft’ will face stern action.
“Yes, corruption is the biggest problem in Bangladesh. If it is brought under control, the country would advance significantly,” he said.
Jahangir made the remarks while responding to reporters’ questions during his visit to Gachha Police Station in Gazipur city, reports UNB.
Highlighting the police reform initiative, he noted that measures have been taken to accept cases and general diaries online across the nation and there will be no need to come to the police station in-person.
Besides, he added, a ‘glass room’ will be provided for questioning the accused in custody, allowing people to witness how they are being treated from outside.
While replying to another query, the home adviser remarked the number of plaintiffs in the July-August murder cases are quite large, and it is taking time to conclude the investigations to determine who is guilty and who is innocent.
