Controversial Bogura jubo league leader Matin Sarkar arrested

Abdul Matin Sarkar, a well-known leader of the Bogura unit of Jubo League and former councillor, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) police.

He was apprehended at around 11:30 pm on Saturday night from the Basila area of Mohammadpur in Dhaka. Matin Sarkar was the Joint General Secretary of the Bogura City Jubo League. He is the son of the late Mojibur Rahman Sarkar of Choksutrapur area in Bogura city. The arrest was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogura DB Police, Iqbal Bahar.

OC Iqbal Bahar stated that Matin Sarkar is accused in over a dozen murder cases, as well as multiple cases under the Arms and Narcotics Control Acts. He had gone into hiding following several new murder cases filed against him after the student-people uprising on August 5.

Based on secret information, a team from the Bogura DB conducted an operation in Mohammadpur around 11:30 pm and successfully arrested him.

The OC further said that Matin Sarkar would be produced before the court. He has been widely discussed due to his involvement in various criminal activities. His brother, Tufan Sarkar, had also drawn nationwide attention in the past for his involvement in a high-profile case of violence against women.
