A group of Dhaka University students came out on street of the campus to protest incident of cocktail explosion near the Raju Memorial Sculpture on Tuesday night.

Bangladesh Democratic Student Council (BDSC) has claimed that those who oppose the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DAKSU) elections and fear defeat are the ones attempting to destabilize the university campus.

Zahid Ahsan, Member Secretary of BDSC made this remark during a protest rally held in response to a cocktail explosion that occurred at Dhaka University around 10:30 PM.

The rally, organized by BDSC, began at the TSC (Teacher-Student Centre) and concluded in front of the Proctor’s office.

“Those who don’t want DAKSU elections, those who fear losing in a fair contest, are the ones trying to create unrest on campus,” Zahid Ahsan said during the rally. He further criticized the university authorities, saying, “There is no strong stance from the administration against repeated attempts to disrupt campus peace.”

BDSC Convenor Abu Baker Mojumdar added, “Students will not allow DAKSU to be shut down. We will ensure our own security if needed. In July, we removed Chhatra League. No one will be allowed to create fresh unrest.”

The protest followed a series of cocktail explosions—two of which occurred on Monday and Tuesday near the temporary headquarters of the Jatiya Nagorik Party. The latest incident took place near the Raju Memorial Sculpture, further heightening tensions on campus.

Several other BDSC leaders took part in the demonstration, including Central Organizer Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury, Dhaka University Unit Organizer Hasibul Islam, and Joint Convenor Mitu Akhter.

The student organization has vowed to continue its movement in favor of holding DAKSU elections and ensuring a peaceful campus environment.
