A Dhaka-bound train struck a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Kalurghat Bridge in Chattogram on Thursday night, killing at least three people and injuring five others.

The deceased included the auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Tushar. Local sources reported that the Cox’s Bazar-bound Parjatak Express hit the vehicle at around 10:30pm while entering the bridge, allegedly disregarding traffic signals. The impact caused the train to collide with multiple other vehicles, including motorcycles.

Firefighter Aminul Islam of Kalurghat Fire Station stated that rescue teams arrived at the scene by 10:45pm after receiving information about the incident. Victims were immediately rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where one body was later recovered from beneath the train wheels at around 12:30am.

Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder of CMCH police outpost confirmed one fatality upon arrival, while five critically injured victims remained under treatment. Authorities fear the death toll may rise as rescue operations continued past 1am.

The ill-fated train had departed Cox’s Bazar at 7:45pm and was en route to Chattogram when the accident occurred in the Boalkhali section of the bridge.
