After striking up a relationship on Facebook, a young Chinese man named Xi Jing Yu has traveled all the way from China to Kushtia. He arrived in Dhaka by air around 2am on Saturday night and reached his beloved Brishti’s house in Khajanagar, Kushtia, in the morning.
Around noon, he accompanied Brishti and her family members to the Kushtia court, where he converted from Buddhism to Islam. Later, in a very private ceremony, he married his beloved according to Muslim rites in Khajanagar, Kushtia Sadar upazila. For this, he embraced Islam and took the new name Shohan Ahmed.
The groom, Xi Jing Yu (28), is the son of Xi Ling Zhang and Zhuo Chun Sui from Henan, China. The bride, Brishti Khatun, is the daughter of Motaleb Mistri from North Para, Khajanagar, Kushtia Sadar upazila.
According to local and court sources, the Chinese youth became acquainted with the young woman from Kushtia’s Khajanagar area on Facebook. Their relationship blossomed into love, and he traveled to Khajanagar to marry Brishti. After converting to Islam at the Kushtia court, the couple proceeded with a quick marriage.
Brishti and her family declined to speak to the media. However, the Chinese youth confirmed the matter and was seen cheerful at the court.
