Youth dies in Dhaka Medical College Hospital after mob beating in Lalbagh

The three-year-old girl, who sustained 90 percent burn injuries in an explosion from an gas leak at a building in the capital’s Jatrabari area, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early Saturday, raising the death toll to three.

Rafia breathed her last around 3:30am, said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, reports UNB.

Earlier on Thursday, three members of a family sustained serious burn injuries in the explosion around 1:40am following a blast on the ground floor flat of a six-storey building on Shahid Faruk Road in the capital’s Jatrabari area.

Among them, Ripon, 40, who suffered 70 percent burns and his wife Eti, 30, who suffered 45 percent burn injuries, died at the hospital on Thursday.

The fire broke out reportedly after a mosquito coil was lit triggering an explosion believed to have resulted from accumulated gas inside the flat.
