Three passengers of an auto-rickshaw, including a child, were killed and three others injured as a truck hit their vehicle from behind on the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur regional road in Gaibandha on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Md Jahidul Islam Zahid, 55, son of the Late Siraj Mandal of Piarapur village in Shakhahar union of the upazila, the acting superintendent of Piarapur Dakhil Madrasa; Md Nurnabi Mahuri, 57, son of the Late Abdul Gani of Chapapara village in Rajahar union of Gobindaganj upazila; and the 19-day-old baby of Mokched Mia of Daridah village in Shibganjan upazila of Bogura district.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station Md Bulbul Islam has confirmed the matter.
Locals said that a truck coming from Dinajpur rammed the Gobindaganj-bound auto-rickshaw from behind at Khalsi in Gobindaganj municipality at around 2.30pm, leaving three passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and three others injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to various hospitals.
Gobindaganj Highway Police Station OC Md Mozafar Hossain said that they seized the truck but the driver and helper of the vehicle fled the scene after accident.
