Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was confined for three hours at Khulna Press Club on Saturday. After attending a discussion with journalists at the Khulna Deputy Commissioner’s conference room around 4:30pm, he visited the Press Club to inspect the damaged building and its infrastructure.

At approximately 5pm, hundreds of students and protesters gathered outside the Press Club, demanding the removal of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Haider.

Demonstrators blocked the Press Secretary’s convoy by setting up barricades, trapping Shafiqul Alam along with other government and non-government officials inside the Press Club premises.

The protest continued from 5pm to 8pm. Afterward, Shafiqul Alam held a meeting with student leaders on the Press Club’s second floor. He assured them that their demand for the KMP Commissioner’s removal would be swiftly addressed through discussions with the chief adviser.

Following this assurance, he left the Press Club.

Meanwhile, after Shafiqul Alam’s departure, student protesters issued a 24-hour ultimatum during a press briefing. They threatened to resume protests if the KMP Commissioner is not removed by Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, Shafiqul Alam exchanged views with journalists at the Khulna deputy commissioner’s conference room.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahmad, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal, Press Club Convener Enamul Haque, and representatives from print and electronic media.
