Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus on Sunday officially inaugurated the ‘Army Headquarters Selection Board 2025’ at the Bangladesh Army Headquarters.

This first-phase promotion board will consider eligible officers holding the ranks of Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel for higher appointments.

At the outset of the event, Dr Yunus paid tribute to the martyrs, wounded veterans, and valiant freedom fighters of the Liberation War, with particular mention of the fallen members of the Armed Forces, especially those from the Bangladesh Army.

He also solemnly commemorated army personnel who were injured or killed while serving in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, as well as the students and civilians who lost their lives or were injured during the July uprising.

Addressing the board, the Chief Adviser instructed members to prioritise candidates’ professional competence, leadership qualities, discipline, integrity, loyalty and dedication when considering promotions.

He underscored that officers who are honest, principled, professional, and possess strong leadership abilities are deserving of promotion. Promotions, he said, should recognise those who have demonstrated capable leadership at various levels of military service, regardless of political ideology.

Dr Yunus highlighted the crucial role of the Bangladesh Army in not only defending the country’s independence and sovereignty but also supporting the civil administration in maintaining internal peace, stability, and disaster response. He acknowledged the army’s continuous efforts in these areas with dedication and responsibility.

Expressing gratitude for these contributions, the Chief Adviser extended his sincere thanks to all members of the Bangladesh Army — from the Chief of Army Staff to rank-and-file soldiers — for their service to the nation.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the event, Dr Yunus was welcomed by Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman, who thanked him for inaugurating the selection board.

Senior military and civilian officials were present at the event. The ceremony concluded with a photo session involving the Chief Adviser and attending army officers, followed by Dr Yunus signing the visitors’ book.
