Charge sheet filed in journalist Tuhin murder case in Gazipur

Gazipur Metropolitan Police has submitted the charge sheet in the murder case of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, just 17 days after the incident.

He stated that the charge sheet has been filed against eight accused individuals. However, the two mobile phones used by the victim have yet to be recovered, as both devices remain switched off.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rabiul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Basan Police Station Md. Shaheen Khan were present at the briefing.

Asaduzzaman Tuhin, 32, son of Hasan Jamal from Bhatipara village in Mymensingh Fulbaria upazila, was the Gazipur correspondent of the daily Protidiner Kagoj. He lived in a rented house with his wife and two sons in Chandana area under Basan Police Station in Gazipur city.

According to family members and locals, the murder took place on the evening of August 7 near the Shapla Mansion shopping complex in Chandana Chowrasta. Tuhin was recording a video on his phone when a group of youths attacked a man named Badsha Mia, who had been seen assaulting a woman named Golapi.

The assailants noticed Tuhin filming, demanded he stop and delete the footage. Tuhin initially left the scene and took shelter at a nearby tea stall in the adjacent mosque market. However, the attackers followed him, dragged him out, and brutally hacked him to death before fleeing.

Among the accused, Shah Jalal has confessed to his involvement in the murder under Section 164 of the Penal Code. The other arrested individuals are Mizan and his wife Golapi, Md Swadhin, Al Amin, Faisal Hasan, Sabbir Sumon, and Arman Hossain.

Police said the accused have a total of 29 cases against them, including charges of murder, rape, drug-related offenses, and robbery. Mizan alone is implicated in 15 of those cases.
