Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Saturday said the Election Commission is working to hold the next national election within a short timeframe, despite various challenges.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting on the national election at the Commission’s Rangpur regional office, he said restoring public trust in the electoral system remains one of the biggest tasks ahead, reports UNB.
“People have lost confidence in the system. Bringing them back to the polling centres will be a big challenge,” he said.
Nasir Uddin said the election date will be announced two months before the schedule is declared, adding that the announcement is not expected immediately. He stressed that the Commission will not work for or against any political party, and will act on behalf of the country’s 18 crore people.
The Chief Election Commissioner also said Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will write to the EC to arrange the national election in February. “Misinformation is being spread on social media through artificial intelligence, which the EC is trying to address,” he added.
Calling on all citizens to exercise their voting rights, Nasir Uddin said casting a ballot is not only a civic duty but also a moral responsibility. He reiterated that the Commission is making the highest possible efforts to conduct the upcoming parliamentary polls in a transparent manner.
