Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin on Wednesday said the Election Commission expects to receive an official letter from the interim government soon, outlining the timeframe to hold the 12th parliamentary elections in early February 2026.

“The Chief Adviser said he would send us a letter to hold the election in early February, ahead of Ramadan. I hope we will get the letter very soon,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital, according to UNB.

On Tuesday, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, during a televised speech marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising, announced that the interim government would formally instruct the Commission to organise the general election before the holy month of Ramadan, which is expected to begin around February 18 next year.

The CEC said preparations are already underway despite various challenges.

“Even though February poses some logistical hurdles, we are proceeding with our preparations. InshaAllah, there will be no shortfall in readiness. We are taking all necessary steps to ensure a fair election,” he said.

He emphasised the Commission’s resolve to ensure transparency.

“We want to make the election as transparent as a mirror. Our sincerity will be visible to the people and the world. We have nothing to conceal,” he added.

Regarding pre-election tasks, Nasir Uddin informed that the updated voter list will be finalised by August 31. Eligible new voters—those turning 18 before the legal cut-off date—will be included following supplementary updates.

He also expressed hope that all necessary procurement for the election—such as ballot boxes, logistics, and technical support—would be completed by September.
