The Chief Adviser’s Office has formally requested the Election Commission to complete all necessary preparations for holding the national parliamentary elections in February 2026 before Ramadan begins. The official letter marks the government’s formal communication to the EC regarding election arrangements.

The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed that the letter, addressed to the chief election commissioner, was sent on Wednesday night.

In the letter, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraj Uddin Mia urged the EC to undertake all required measures to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and festive national election within the specified timeframe.

This follows Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’ announcement during his July Mass Uprising Day address to the nation on Tuesday, where he stated that a formal request would be sent to the EC to organise elections before Ramadan next February.

The letter references the chief adviser’s speech, noting his emphasis on immediate preparations to make the upcoming elections a joyous occasion, especially given citizens’ inability to vote freely over the past fifteen years.

It reiterates the chief adviser’s vision for the elections to be memorable through voter participation, peace, harmony, and goodwill. The government has assured full cooperation to the EC in organising a credible, peaceful, and, notably, technology-enabled election.

The principal secretary has formally requested the EC to initiate necessary actions for holding the national elections as per the chief adviser’s announcement.
