The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has announced it will not renew the leases of 16 commercial service providers operating across three international airports, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.

The directive takes effect from midnight tonight on Monday.

According to CAAB, the decision has been made to improve passenger services, enhance security, and ensure greater transparency in airport operations, reports BSS.

The affected entities at HSIA include Aeros Trading, Sajal Enterprise, Mahbuba Traders, Nahar Construction, Aviation Transport Ltd, A Five Roadway Ltd, World Trust Tourist Car Services, Shirin Enterprise, Hawlader and Sons, Othoi Enterprise, Wolf Corporation, Arial Creative Space, Dhansiri Communication, and Department S Consulting.

At Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport, Falcon Agency is to cease operations, while Falcon Airport Services Team at Syedpur Airport in Nilphamari has also been instructed to cease operations.

In a notice issued on June 29 and followed by formal directives Sunday, CAAB instructed the abovementioned firms to vacate their premises and wind up all operations in line with their lease expirations.

The aviation authority made clear that no applications for lease renewal would be accepted.

Airport sources suggest several of these firms had long maintained their presence by leveraging political affiliations during the tenure of the ousted Awami League government, despite allegations of irregularities and poor service delivery.

CAAB officials stated the decision aligns with broader plans to reform airport management, introduce stricter oversight, and implement a new commercial framework designed to uphold institutional discipline and raise service standards.

The aviation authority plans to introduce revised policies for commercial activities in airport zones, aimed at ensuring fair access, accountability, and better service to travellers.
