A video showing teenagers in school uniforms exchanging blows and kicks has recently gone viral on social media, with propagandists presenting it as evidence of an alleged “July gang culture” in Bangladesh.
However, fact-checkers from the CA Press Wing Facts have dismissed this narrative as part of pro-Awami League propaganda. According to their statement, verification shows the footage is not from Bangladesh but from Kerala, India.
Indian media reports confirm the video dates back to 2023 and depicts a clash between two student groups in a Kerala school. The footage was originally posted on February 26, 2023, by the Instagram account “DBC Hindi,” which captioned it, “Fierce fighting among students in Kerala, video goes viral!”
CA Press Wing Facts noted that the visuals in the currently circulated clip exactly match those of the earlier Kerala video.
Indian English-language outlet Times Now also covered the same incident under the headline “Video of shocking student street fight from Kerala goes viral | WATCH,” reporting that around 20 students were involved, with at least two sustaining serious injuries.
“Although the true source of the video is clear, it is being used in Bangladesh with false claims to stir fear over a so-called ‘July gang culture.’ Portraying an old student brawl from Kerala as recent Bangladeshi violence is completely fake and misleading,” the CA Press Wing Facts said in its statement.
