Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will chair an emergency meeting with top experts, advisers, and officials at his official residence Jamuna on Saturday at 7:30pm to discuss the US administration’s recent imposition of reciprocal tariffs, including a 37% duty on Bangladeshi goods.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, CA’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said Bangladesh is reviewing its tariff structure on US imports and is exploring options to respond appropriately.

The US move, announced by President Donald Trump on April 2 during a White House event, includes new tariffs on several countries: 26% on India, 34% on China, 20% on the EU, and 37% on Bangladesh—citing a need to counteract duties placed on US products.

Following the announcement, the chief adviser’s office emphasized the importance of US-Bangladesh trade relations, with the US being Bangladesh’s largest export market.

The government is considering easing non-tariff barriers to facilitate US exports and reviewing investment policies to boost bilateral cooperation.

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has instructed relevant departments to assess the situation and prepare necessary policy responses.

Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin is scheduled to meet acting US Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson on April 6, with the commerce secretary also expected to attend.

Sources indicate that Bangladesh will continue to push for a negotiated settlement through diplomatic and trade discussions, while also working to improve domestic competitiveness.
