In a brazen daylight robbery, miscreants shot and snatched Tk22 lakh from a businessman in Mirpur, Dhaka. The victim, Md Mahmudul Islam (55), owner of Mahmud Money Exchange, sustained severe gunshot wounds and has been admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
The incident occurred around 10am on Tuesday. Following the crime, members of the army, police, RAB, and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene.
Mahmudul resides with his family in Mirpur-6. The injured businessman recounted that, while heading from his home to his money exchange office near Mirpur-10 roundabout, six unidentified assailants on two motorcycles intercepted him near the road between the stadium swimming pool and the fire service on Abdul Baten Road.
They demanded money and shot him in the left side of his waist when he refused. The robbers then snatched the Tk22 lakh he was carrying. Locals rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital before he was transferred to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Regarding the incident, acting Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Model Police Station Mohammad Sazzad Rumman stated, “We heard that a businessman was shot by miscreants. Upon receiving the news, the assistant commissioner of Mirpur Division and other officials immediately arrived at the scene and are working to identify the perpetrators. CCTV footage is being reviewed to track down the criminals.”
DC Mohammad Makshudur Rahman of Mirpur Zone Police stated that the incident is currently under investigation, and those involved will soon be brought to justice. CCTV footage is being examined to identify the perpetrators and take necessary action. The victim, according to police officials, is currently stable.
