A head-on collision between two passenger buses left one person dead and at least 40 others injured on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway in Patiya on Friday night.

Police said the accident occurred in front of Noyahat Gas Pump around 8:30pm when buses of Eagle Paribahan and Saudia Paribahan collided.

The deceased was identified as Md Arafat, driver of the Eagle bus. He was the son of Nurul Hossain from Banirchhara in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar and died on the spot.

Both vehicles were badly damaged and blocked the highway, causing a long tailback as traffic remained stranded on both sides.
