Buddha Purnima being observed

Buddha Purnima, the main religious festival of the Buddhist community, is being celebrated on Saturday.

According to the religion, it is the day when the great lord, Gautama Buddha, was born, attained enlightenment, and passed away. That is why this day is of great holiness and significance for Buddhists. 

On this occasion, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, has extended his heartfelt greetings to all the Buddhist people of the country. 

He said, “On the eve of this year’s Buddha Purnima, I extend my warm felicitations to the Buddhist community in Bangladesh and around the world. This year’s celebrations have come at a time when the teachings of Lord Buddha to foster peace, harmony and unity are more relevant than ever before”. 

“On this auspicious occasion, I wish that our path forward as a humanity be lit with understanding, compassion and joy” Professor Yunus said.

It’s a public holiday. Peace processions, day-long lamp lighting, worship, and prayers at Buddhist monasteries and temples are being held across the country.
