BTV celebrates Tagore’s death anniversary today

On Rabindranath Tagore’s death anniversary, Bangladesh Television has lined up several special programs. The schedule includes a variety of shows such as dramas, documentaries, musical programs, dance performances and poetry recitations.

At 1:10pm today, a program dedicated to Tagore’s songs was broadcasted. This was followed by a dance program, “Nupurer Jhankar” at 4:30pm, featuring choreography by Kabirul Islam Ratan, Abdur Rashid Swapan, Amirul Islam and Syeda Saila Ahmed. The show presented performances set to eight of Tagore’s most popular songs.

After that a children’s program, featuring Tagore’s songs, rhymes, quizzes, drawing and a compilation of his life story, will air at 6:00pm. This will be followed by a poetry recitation program at 7:00pm.

The special drama “Durbuddhi,” based on Tagore’s short story, will be broadcasted at 9:00pm. The television adaptation is by Shahjaman Mia and produced by L Ruma Akhter. The cast includes prominent actors such as Shatabdi Wadud, Shahed Ali, Rina Rahman and more. The story revolves around a cunning village doctor who, driven by self-interest, devises a strange plan to marry his son off to a wealthy man’s daughter through deception. The drama highlights the hypocrisy, selfishness and foolishness of the doctor.

Additionally, at 10:00pm, a documentary titled “Srijone Sritite Rabindranath,” which will explore Tagore’s life, philosophy and literature, including songs, poems, dance-dramas, and readings of Tagore’s letters.

The day’s program will conclude with a duet music programme featuring Tagore’s songs at 11:05pm.
