The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday night handed over the body of a Bangladeshi man, three days after he was allegedly shot dead along the Nitpur border in Porsha upazila of Naogaon district.

The deceased, identified as Ibrahim Hossain, 40, was a resident of Rodgram village in Nitpur union.

According to local sources, Ibrahim had taken his cattle to graze near the border on Thursday morning when BSF personnel from India’s Agrabad Camp reportedly opened fire, killing him on the spot. His body was then taken across the border into Indian territory.

Initially, the BSF denied responsibility for the incident.

However, following a flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF, the Indian side admitted to the shooting and agreed to return the body.

The body was handed over to Bangladeshi authorities around 10:00pm through the Nitpur border, confirmed Mahfuzur Rahman, company commander of the BGB-16 Battalion stationed at Nitpur Camp.

BGB personnel, accompanied by police, received the body and later turned it over to Ibrahim’s family.

An official inquiry into the incident is expected.
