BSF kills 1 Bangladeshi youth at Feni border

A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead and another injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the border in Feni’s Parshuram upazila. The incident took place late Thursday night at the Bashpadua border area.

The deceased was identified as Millat Hossain (21), son of Yusuf Miah from Bashpadua village in Parshuram upazila. The injured was Mohammad Afsar (31), son of Air Ahmmed, also from the same area.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local sources, around 1am on Thursday night, Millat Hossain and Mohammad Afsar crossed the border pillar 2164/3S under the Gouthuma BOP area of Parshuram upazila. As they reached the border fencing, BSF personnel opened fire on them. Both Millat and Afsar were shot and injured. Local people rescued them and rushed them to the Parshuram Upazila Health Complex. They were later transferred to the Feni 250-bed General Hospital for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, Millat Hossain succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, while Afsar is undergoing treatment there.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, commanding officer of the BGB’s 4 Feni Battalion, confirmed the incident and said that BGB personnel immediately visited the site after receiving information. The body of Millat Hossain has been sent to the morgue at Feni General Hospital for an autopsy.

Lieutenant Colonel Mosharraf also said , “We are currently gathering detailed information on why and under what circumstances they crossed the border at such a late hour. A formal protest letter will be sent to the BSF regarding the incident. Firing at the border is unacceptable under any circumstances.”
