The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over five Bangladeshis, who had entered India illegally, to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Feni border.

They had gone to India in search of work and were arrested by the police of that country, subsequently serving various prison terms.

They were handed over to the BGB through a flag meeting between the BGB and BSF around 4:30pm on Monday.

Later, at night, the BGB handed them over to the Feni Model Police Station.

Following criticism of the humiliating push-in incidents at the border, the BSF this time handed over the Bangladeshi citizens through a flag meeting.

The handed-over Bangladeshis are: Saiduzzaman Bhuiyan, 29; Md Emdad Hossain, 27; Md Gias Uddin, 29; Md Rafi, 25; and Abul Bashar, 55.

Police and BGB sources said that, among the five, Saiduzzaman, Emdad, Gias, and Rafi were arrested by Indian police on April 12 from the Manumukh area of India.

After being arrested for illegally entering India, they were in jail there for three months.

After their release, they were kept in quarantine until August 16, after which they were handed over to the BSF.

On the other hand, Abul Bashar was arrested by police on June 9 from Udaipur, India, for illegal infiltration. He was imprisoned in an Indian jail for one month.

Feni Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Samsuzzaman said “Five Bangladeshi citizens have been handed over to the police station through the BGB. We are verifying their names and addresses. We are trying to contact their relatives. Further action will be taken according to subsequent instructions.”

Previously the BSF had pushed-in 67 Bangladeshi citizens in four phases through various border areas of Feni in an unlawful manner.
