Manchester United remain without a Premier League victory this season after being held to a 1-1 draw at Fulham on Sunday.

United had hoped to build on a largely encouraging performance in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal but missed an early chance to take the lead when Bruno Fernandes blazed a penalty over the bar, moments after colliding with the referee.

The visitors eventually went ahead in the 58th minute thanks to an own goal by Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, deflecting a Leny Yoro header from a corner. However, Fulham fought back as substitute Emile Smith Rowe poked home Alex Iwobi’s cross in the 73rd minute to level the score.

United’s attacking reinforcements, including Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, who joined the club in the summer for around £200 million, are yet to make a mark in terms of goals. Sesko was introduced as a second-half substitute for the second consecutive match, but struggled to find rhythm against Fulham’s organised defence.

Ruben Amorim’s side showed glimpses of promise but also highlighted ongoing challenges. Fernandes’ missed penalty, coupled with a lack of control in key moments, reflected both tactical and psychological issues within the squad. Matheus Cunha tested goalkeeper Bernd Leno with two near misses, while Amad Diallo and Mason Mount offered occasional flashes of creativity without breaking the deadlock.

Fulham, by contrast, maintained a more settled team structure. Josh King’s incisive runs and disciplined defensive displays kept United’s forwards in check, while Leno and the defenders coped with the sporadic threat posed by United’s new signings.

United continued to probe late in the match, with Harry Maguire coming on as a late substitute to challenge for headers during corners, but could not find the breakthrough. Fulham’s resilience and timely substitutions ensured they left Craven Cottage with a deserved point.
