BRTC bus runs over, kills 7-year-old girl

Roshni Paul, a first-grade student at Motijheel Government Model School, was fatally struck by a BRTC bus while crossing the road with her grandmother hand near Kamalapur intersection on Monday morning.

The critically injured child was declared dead upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Police have impounded the bus, but the driver fled the scene.

At DMCH, grieving grandmother Rekha Biswas recounted: “Roshni studied in Class 1. We live in Mugda’s Manda area. I was bringing her home after school when the BRTC bus hit her violently around 9:00am while we were crossing the road.”

Originating from Patgaon village in Tongibari, Munshiganj, Roshni lived with her father Palash Pal in a rented Mugda residence. DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Md Faruk confirmed the death, stating the body was kept in the morgue for autopsy.

Motijheel Police Station officials confirmed the bus seizure but reported the driver’s escape.
