A metrorail heading towards Motijheel from Uttara came to a halt at Agargoan station on Monday morning at around 9:20 am. Following the stoppage, some passengers got off the train. However, operations resumed five to six minutes later and no one was injured.
Few days ago, a passenger travelling from Mirpur said that just after the train passed Bijoy Sarani, it made a sudden noise and most of the lights went out. The air-conditioning system also shut down. Despite the issue, the train managed to reach Farmgate Station, where passengers boarded and disembarked. But after that, the train did not move for some time. During this period, the lights and air-conditioning remained off, prompting many passengers to leave the train.
At 10 am, passenger Fahim Foraezy posted on the “Metro Rail Passenger Community” Facebook page, stating, “A few days ago I made a post about this. After crossing Bijoy Sarani station, the Uttara-bound train suddenly braked for a few milliseconds and then started again, causing a jolt. Passengers bumped into each other, the air conditioning system malfunctioned, and the lights went off.”
He noted that many other passengers had experienced similar issues and had commented on that post. “But most people, without understanding the post, started making arrogant comments as if they knew everything. Frustrated by their remarks, I had to delete the post,” he added.
Regarding today’s incident, Mohammad Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, Deputy Project Director and Public Relations Officer of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said, “Due to some technical issues, the metrorail stopped at Agargoan station. It was caused by a mechanical glitch, but it was temporary. The train started running again after about five minutes.”
