Brazil booked their place in the Women’s Copa America final with a commanding 5-1 victory over Uruguay on Tuesday, as Amanda Gutierres starred with a brace to lead the defending champions into a rematch of the 2022 final against Colombia.

The win not only secured Brazil’s shot at a ninth continental title but also confirmed their qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“We are very happy, it is my first final. It is the result of the work we have been doing with the coach,” said 24-year-old Gutierres, who was instrumental in the victory. “Colombia are a very tough opponent, but we are working very hard to win that trophy.”

Brazil took control early, with Gutierres opening the scoring in the 11th minute by heading in a precise cross from the legendary Marta. Just two minutes later, Gio Garbelini doubled the lead, finishing from close range after a scramble in the box.

Uruguay nearly responded through Belen Aquino, whose powerful effort struck the crossbar, but Brazil soon extended their lead. In the 27th minute, Marta converted a penalty — her first goal of the tournament — to make it 3-0.

Uruguay pulled one back in the 51st minute via an own goal from Isa Haas, but Gutierres quickly restored Brazil’s three-goal cushion with a stunning free kick in the 65th minute. Substitute Dudinha then sealed the result with a late strike four minutes from time.

Brazil will now face hosts Colombia in Saturday’s final — a repeat of the 2022 showpiece, which Brazil won to claim their eighth Copa America crown.
