Bangladeshi-origin footballer Nabil Irfan has been called up to the Qatar men’s national team ahead of their AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against Uzbekistan on 10 June.

The 21-year-old right-back, who plays for Al-Wakrah SC in the Qatari top flight, received the late call-up from head coach Julen Lopetegui just three days before the crucial fixture. He joins Mohammed Ayash as the latest additions to the squad.

Nabil previously represented Qatar in June last year, making his debut in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against India in Doha. He played 70 minutes in the 2–1 win and was also part of the squad for the match against Afghanistan, although he did not feature in that game.

Born and raised in Qatar, Nabil is of Bangladeshi descent, with both his parents originally from Brahmanbaria. He is one of a growing number of Bangladeshi-origin footballers making a name for themselves on the international stage.
