BRAC Bank has launched its first in-house literary magazine, Kothamala, as part of efforts to promote creativity and intellectual engagement among its employees, the bank said.

The publication was unveiled on Saturday April 18, 2026.

Kothamala provides a platform for employees to contribute creative work, including short stories, poetry, essays and travelogues, reflecting a range of literary expression within the organisation.

The initiative is positioned as a first of its kind in Bangladesh’s banking sector, aimed at encouraging storytelling, critical thinking and artistic exploration alongside professional responsibilities.

The magazine builds on the earlier publication Protishwar, a collection of literary works by members of the BRAC Bank Reading Café that received broad reader interest.

Protishwar was the first book written by reading club members within a bank in Bangladesh.

Kothamala will be published three times a year to provide a continuing platform for creative contributions.

BRAC Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the publication reflects the organisation’s emphasis on cultural development in the workplace.

“Kothamala is not merely a literary publication it is a reflection of our collective intellect and imagination,” he said.

He said the initiative supports the bank’s approach to building a progressive workplace that values both business performance and creative engagement.

“It reinforces our belief that a truly progressive workplace is defined not only by business excellence but also by cultural and creative enrichment,” he said.

Khan said encouraging employees to engage with literature and express their ideas helps strengthen organisational cohesion while contributing to a more creative society.

“This literary periodical is a testament to our enduring commitment to these values and I take immense pride in the vibrant literary culture we continue to cultivate at BRAC Bank,” he said.
