National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz stated that the commission will disclose both the issues where political parties reached consensus and those where agreements could not be achieved during discussions.

Speaking at a dialogue on reforms with civil society representatives at KIB Auditorium in Farmgate on Sunday afternoon, Riaz emphasised transparency: “We will do this to assist people in future political decision-making, which we consider crucial.”

Riaz noted that while political parties have agreed on some fundamental issues, differences remain on others due to ideological positions. “Complete consensus on all matters is not possible – that is reality,” he observed.

Highlighting civil society’s role, Riaz stressed: “We have repeatedly said political party discussions alone aren’t enough for national consensus; civil society must also build agreement. Their active participation in reform programs is indispensable.”

The commission has contacted parties with key recommendations and received feedback, having initially consulted 33 political organisations.

“We stand at a critical juncture,” Riaz remarked. “While we have created tremendous possibilities, such opportunities bring challenges – and these transformation challenges are particularly difficult.”

The meeting was attended by Commission members Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Ifthekharuzzaman, Md Ayub Mia, and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider, among other civil society representatives.
