BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan on Monday categorically dismissed speculation about his party seeking political reconciliation with Awami League, declaring that BNP will not be compromising with AL under any circumstances.

Addressing a 12-party alliance organised discussion titled “Resist Election Disruption Conspiracies and Remove Barriers to Tarique Rahman’s Return” at Jatiya Press Club, Nazrul challenged the narrative: ” Will anyone make a compromise with the Awami League while we are alive? We are not going to do it … and if anyone else tries, we’ll resist them too. There is no point in doing such an absurd thing.”

The senior BNP leader recounted alleged persecutions – Khaleda Zia’s “six-year wrongful imprisonment,” Tarique Rahman’s exile and health crisis, and his brother’s death without medical care. “Every BNP leader, including our secretary general, faces at least 50 fabricated cases,” he claimed.

Khan questioned the interim government’s election timeline, citing National Consensus Commission Vice Chairman Ali Riaz’s recent statement about finalising dialogue points within six weeks. “If reform ordinances can be issued promptly, why delay polls beyond December? The people’s mandate must be restored immediately,” he asserted.

The discussion, chaired by 12-party coordinator Mustafa Jamal Haider, featured speeches from Liberal Democratic Party’s Shahadat Hossain Selim, Jatiya Dal’s Syed Ehsanul Huda, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Mufti Mohiuddin Ekram.
