BNP will organise victory rallies across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, marking the first anniversary of what it terms “the fall of fascism” and the people’s triumph in the July Uprising.
The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme in a press release on Monday.
“Victory rallies will be held at all thana and upazila levels on Tuesday, August 5, and in all districts and metropolitan cities on Wednesday, August 6,” said Rizvi. In Dhaka, the rally will be held at 2pm on Wednesday in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan.
Rizvi called on BNP leaders, activists, and residents of Dhaka to participate in the rallies on time. The rallies are part of BNP’s 36-day-long programme titled ‘July–August Uprising: Mourning and Victory Observance’, launched on June 26 to commemorate the mass movement that led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime on August 5, 2024.
The observance includes discussion meetings, silent marches, seminars, blood donation drives, street theatre, sports events, and public awareness campaigns on dengue and COVID-19.
The programme was inaugurated by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on July 1 through a virtual address to a discussion titled ‘Mass Uprising 2024: National Unity and Democratic Journey’ at the China–Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.
