A BNP delegation led by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi submitted the party’s annual financial report to the Election Commission on Sunday, officially received by Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

Later, at a press briefing held at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka, Rizvi disclosed details of the report to journalists. He revealed that, in 2024, BNP’s income stood at Tk15.65 crore while expenditures totaled Tk4.80 crore, with Tk10.85 crore currently deposited in banks.

On a separate note, Rizvi urged the Election Commission to ensure voters can cast ballots without fear, stating: “It’s the Commission’s duty to guarantee voters aren’t intimidated. We expect the current EC will responsibly organise free, fair, and inclusive elections.”

Criticising the EC’s role in previous elections, Rizvi said, “The Commission became a tool of fascism – conducting nighttime vote counts after daytime polling. When the BNP protested these irregularities, led to fabricated cases against BNP activists.”

Warning against electoral sabotage, he added: “Those who murdered democracy previously may conspire to disrupt elections. The government must thwart such plots to deliver credible polls.”

Lambasting the previous Awami League government, Rizvi claimed: “The fascist regime destroyed electoral systems, demolishing all constitutional institutions starting with the Election Commission.” However, he expressed hope the current EC could regain public trust.

Regarding financial specifics, Rizvi clarified: “Primary income sources include executive committee contributions, book sales, and donations. Expenditures covered party programs, disaster relief, and individual assistance initiatives.”
