A day-long free medical camp was organised in Meherpur under the initiative of the newly elected committee of the district BNP.
The camp was inaugurated on Saturday morning at Raipur Government Primary School premises in Sadar Upazila by District BNP General Secretary Advocate Kamrul Hasan.
Also present were former District BNP Vice President Ilias Hossain, Sadar Upazila BNP President Faiz Mohammad, General Secretary Saidur Rahman, and other local leaders.
In his inaugural speech, Advocate Kamrul Hasan said, “Standing by the helpless is our main goal. Access to healthcare is a basic right, and this initiative has been taken to ensure that no one is deprived of treatment due to financial constraints.”
He added, “The camp provided medical services and free medicines to the underprivileged and poor residents of Amdah Union. In the future, we plan to organize such free medical camps every month.”
Experienced doctors and health workers conducted primary examinations of patients at the camp. Alongside general treatment, advice was offered on diabetes, high blood pressure, respiratory problems, skin diseases, and child health. Women and children’s participation was significant.
Local residents who attended said they had long suffered from lack of free medical services. They expressed relief and gratitude for receiving free treatment and medicines. Over a hundred people received medical care during the day-long camp.
According to the leaders, BNP aims not only for political activities but also to stand by the people as part of its social responsibility. They expressed hope that such initiatives would expand in the future.
The medical camp created a festive atmosphere in the area. Many believe that if such programs are implemented regularly, the quality of healthcare for the underprivileged in villages will improve significantly.
