BNP has issued a show-cause notice to Fazlur Rahman, a member of its Advisory Council, on charges of making misleading statements about the historic July mass uprising.
He has been asked to explain why organisational action should not be taken against him within 24 hours, according to the show-cause notice.
Fazlur Rahman has been in the spotlight for a long time for making various statements on social media.
“You have been repeatedly making offensive and misleading statements about the historic July-August mass uprising and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives, which are completely contrary to the party’s ideology and the spirit of the uprising,” the notice reads.
“Your statements against this glorious uprising and the movement for the restoration of democracy have provoked a strong public reaction. Many believe your remarks are a well-coordinated attempt to damage the party’s reputation. You have even insulted people’s religious sentiments through your words,” it adds.
It also says, “During the July uprising, more than 450 leaders and activists from BNP, along with nearly 1,500 students and people, were martyred, and over 30,000 people were severely injured. Your continuous denigration of the heroic role played by students and the people in this struggle for democracy is disgraceful.”
